Phyllis Lucas-Woods joined the Foundation Board in 2018. She and her husband
James (“Buck”) chose to move to Millbrae 16 years ago because it is a diverse, small
city with a larger city vision and a community that “feels like home.”
Though born and raised in San Francisco, Phyllis spent her 35-year professional
career in our County working in the San Mateo County Community College District.
Following graduation from Skyline College in the first class of its opening, Phyllis
decided to return to work there after earning her BA and MA in English and
Literature because of Skyline’s connection to the community. For 25 years she held
numerous positions there including Professor of English and Dean of Language Arts
and Learning Resources. For another 10 years she worked at Cañada College as
Dean of the University Center and Vice President before retiring.
Phyllis also has an extensive background in grant and facility development. And she
has served on numerous other boards, most recently the San Mateo CASA, Court
Appointed Special Advocates for Children.
Though now retired, Phyllis continues to be dedicated to the communities of San
Mateo County and, specifically, to our city of Millbrae.
